A 57-year-old man is recovering at a Manhattan hospital after a violent encounter in the early hours of Monday morning left him bleeding on an Upper West Side street corner.
The attack unfolded around 2 a.m. at the intersection of West 112th Street and Broadway, where the victim was stabbed in the abdomen, according to police. What he did next likely saved his life — but it wasn’t a call to 911.
Bleeding from the wound, the man walked into a nearby subway station and boarded a southbound train. He rode the line several stops down to the 96th Street station, where he flagged down an NYPD officer on the platform and asked for help.
Emergency responders rushed him to Mount Sinai Morningside. The NYPD has confirmed to ILTUWS that the victim is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by sending a direct message to @NYPDTips on Twitter.
